This course is an extension of the two-week Demo Lab held June 1-15 at Ripon High School.
Only participants who complete the June 1-15 Demo Lab course may opt to take this one-week course extension for credit.

This final week will focus on the bridge between creative writing and academic writing. Participating teachers will continue their collaborative exploration of instructional practices that work with real students in a real classroom environment.
Demonstration lessons will help teachers understand and address the Common Core Standards that have been adopted by the California State Board of Education and will be implemented over the next three years.
(The 10th-12th grade students who participate in this extra week of instruction will complete standards-based coursework to make up high school credit requirements for English I or English II. Students will use experiences and drafts from June 1-15 classwork as a foundation for their individual research projects.)
COURSE TEXTS:
Teachers will continue to explore ideas from the text used during the June 1-15 course:
• Creating Writers Through 6-Trait Writing Assessment and Instruction by Vicki Spandel
Instructors may also introduce some brief articles that address common problems in the teaching of the academic writing.
